4 Link in the rear is making progress, managed to get the other side upper link and frame addition in this weekend. Same process as the previous. Welding seems to be getting better, getting tips from my cousin about what I am doing right and wrong.
I started on the lower link, now my problem is my lower links need to be longer than my upper links. So in order to do that I need to move them up the frame. I am starting to get under the truck cab at this point and so far down the frame that the link bar would probably be contacting the frame. So I had to figure out a way to move the links on the frame side closer together and angle them out so the joint wasn’t under so much of a default angle. So I cut out some angled frame parts that I figured I could mount first and mount the links to them. In the end I would build this all into a cross member that braces the frame better. So I cut my small angles out.
When I mocked this up on the frame I realized I just made the contact with the frame worse so I need to move the links further in. So I added another section of 2×4 rectangular tube to my original angle bracket. This would move my lower link points 2 inches closer on each side, This actually improved the math for the rear
Eventually I will box all the ends in but I am keeping them open as a possible way to run lines for brakes and fuel later. These will all be added to a cross member that will be apart of the final frame build. Hopefully later this week I can get these cleaned up and mounted to the frame.
The biggest excitement this week is my front suspension setup from Scott’s Hot Rods finally showed up. This is a custom built IFS with coil overs. So it was like Xmas opening up all the boxes. I just went through everything to make sure it all arrived. I want to finish up the rear before I even start on this. One end at a time! But this does set me up for my goal of having a rolling chassis by end of June.
