1937 Dodge Truck Nest

Breaking Down the 1937 Dodge Truck

Posted on April 29, 2020May 12, 2020 by scott.mcgregor

The truck was sitting in a junkyard for god knows how long. So like any old truck a family of mice had moved in and eaten every part of the interior so first order of business was getting the nasty stuff out and getting the cab cleaned up so I could start working on it.

First thing I had to do was figure out how to get the doors off. Two simple hinge pins on each side hold the doors in place. Well this should be easy. Nope 4-5 hours later I finally had the doors off. Lots of penetrating oil and beers. Finally ended up having to drill two of the pins out. Cut the top head off first and drilled down through the top of the pin until the gnarled part of the pin was free.

I spent the next day or so removing all the interior trim pieces, dash, windows. gauges. Anything still bolted to the firewall. Bagging and tagging all the screws as I went. Most of this stuff is rusted beyond reuse but I want to find proper replacements when I go to reassemble the bits of the cab I am keeping.

With most of the nasty stuff removed it was time for a quick power wash. Cleaned out all the mice left overs and dirt.
